Today's Topic: Marijuana Usage
Driving under the influence of marijuana seems to be less risky because people who are high tend to be more aware that they are impaired and compensate, while alcohol tends to increase recklessness and create a false confidence. Also people are more likely to smoke weed at home or in private rather than out at bars or other public events that require driving to and fro. The use of marijuana is becoming an increasingly mainstream activity everyday. In recent years I have noticed a definate movement towards normalizing an activity that once was associated only with hippies and criminals.
While we do sell and distribute marijuana paraphenalia we do not endorse the use of the product. Someone once asked "Is Marijuana addictive?" The states Colorado and Washington just past laws that made Marijuana legal for recreational use. Texas is in the process of passing a Bill that would make one ounce or less a fine only misdemeanor. Annually, in Texas some 80,000 citizens are arrested for Marijuana violations; an estimated 97% of those arrested and charged for possession alone-not trafficking, cultivation or sale. House Bill 184 would significantly reduce state prosecutorial costs associated with tens of thousands on minor marijuana arrests and allow law enforcement resources to be refocused on other, more serious criminal offenses. There are currently 18 states that have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes and a multitude of states that have decriminalized it to the point it only calls for payment of a fine as opposed to having to serve jail time. Those states are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Oregon.
